1.Attended Samples (short-term measurements)

An expert measuring the vibration levels on site can be the best way to monitor levels during a critical, high-risk operation. Conversely, a monitoring regime based on short-term attended measurements can be sufficient for smaller construction projects or where the risk of adverse effects from vibration is considered relatively low. The VM-56 is ideally suited to attended measurements. It is easy and intuitive to use. The bright, backlit display is easy to read in all lighting conditions. The unit is lightweight and portable with sufficient battery life, from the internal AA cells, for a full day’s monitoring. Practical accessories, such as ground and wall mounting plates are available.
The VM-56 stores the measurement results as a CSV file onto a memory card which can be opened directly into a spreadsheet program making the task of reporting very quick and easy. The Waveform Recording Program VX-56WR and Waveform Analysis Software can be used if more detailed analysis is required.

2.Unattended Long-Term Measurements

Carrying out continuous long-term measurements at a receptor or, perhaps, on a site boundary can demonstrate that vibration limits have/have not been exceeded during construction works. This can be a powerful way of demonstrating that vibration levels associated with the risk of building damage and/or significant adverse subjective response have, or have not, occurred.
The VM-56 is ideally suited to this task because it can store up to 200 days’ data as a CSV file onto and SD card. The VM-56 can be externally powered and the instrument and sensor are weather resistant (senor IPX7 and instrument IP54). Practical accessories, such as ground and wall mounting plates are available. The CSV data from the SD card can be opened directly into a spreadsheet program and an Excel macro is supplied free of charge to facilitate report creation.

3. Long-Term Live-to-Web Monitoring

It is becoming standard practice for the vibration levels from major projects to be continuously
monitored with a “real-time” live-to-web system. Alerts can sent when vibration levels associated with significant annoyance or effects on buildings are being approached or exceeded. The “real-time” vibration levels can also be made available to the affected receptors to address concerns or demonstrate whether limits are being met or exceeded.
The two-way communications interface and reliability of the VM-56 make it ideally suited to integration into an online system. Using the RION VM-56 also ensures that the quality of the data is excellent.
